This is why you should never dry your clothes in your room!

Share:

Have you ever wondered why it is usually better to dry your clothes on a rack in the basement and not in other parts of your house or apartment, e.g. next to your bed or in the kitchen? The reason for this is simple and you should definitely not ignore it!
Many of us hang up wet laundry in our rooms. Sometimes we even turn up the heat. But that's exactly what you shouldn't do. When wet laundry is hanging on a drying rack, the humidity automatically increases by about 30%. A large basket of laundry contains about 2 liters of water that evaporates immediately and spreads into the air. It doesn't sound that dramatic at first but you definitely shouldn't underestimate the consequences this can have. Mold and fungi, which spread fast, develop very quickly thanks to the increased humidity.
Often the signs of fungi or mold are not visible to the naked eye. It can have serious and very harmful effects on our health, warns David Denning, Professor of Medicine and Mycology and Director of the National Aspergillosis Centre in Manchester. People with weakened immune systems and heavy asthma are at particular risk. It can result in heaviness of breath, allergies, asthma and lung diseases. And in the worst case, an infection of the lungs can cause death.
Experts advise to dry laundry in the following ways:
  • outside in the fresh air
  • in a clothing dryer
  • in a well ventilated room outside of your living quarters
You can reduce the risk of encountering health problems in this very simple and easy way.
